The year is 1967. American troops are making their way through the jungle of the Cu Chi District of Vietnam. The opposing Viet Cong have developed an uncanny ability to blend into the surrounding terrain. The jungle is riddled with traps. Snipers appear from nowhere and vanish just as quickly. The key to the Vietnamese strategy turns out to be a vast network of tunnels stretching beneath the jungle. As a group of new recruits arrive at a remote jungle camp, they soon learn that their mission will be anything but routine. A tunnel entrance has been discovered and they must confront the enemy in an attempt to find information that will give them an advantage in an increasingly difficult war. The Vietnamese that inhabit the tunnel are faced with an equally grim task. By resorting to primitive, but ingenious methods of combat, the Vietnamese have proven to be surprisingly effective against the American’s superior technology. When the battle moves underground, our group of young Americans and Vietnamese face unspeakable horrors. Survival becomes increasingly unlikely, as both sides fight to further the cause of a war that neither asked for.

After surviving a near-fatal stab wound inflicted by her religious-zealot mother, Molly (Haley Bennett, MUSIC & LYRICS) and her father attempt to make a fresh start in a new town. Unfortunately, on top of making new friends and studying calculus, poor Molly also has to contend with horrific nightmares, chronic nosebleeds, and mysterious voices. Has she inherited her mother's insanity, or are there more sinister forces at work? It turns out that Molly's parents made a deal with the devil when she was born, and they price that they paid was her immortal soul.   

Faustian bargains are a tried and true motif of the horror genre. They tap into audience fears and offer up the guilty pleasure of dancing with the devil. While THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY dwells on gloom and doom, there are great moments when Molly explores her impending wicked side, flirting with the devilishly handsome Joseph Young (GOSSIP GIRL's Chace Crawford) and giving Suzie (90210's AnnaLynne McCord), the residential mean girl, some bone-breaking comeuppance. Director Mickey Lidell could've used a lighter tough with the film, but in an era when every other horror film is a remake, seeing somebody even attempt to try something original is a nice change of pace. It's equally refreshing to see a filmmaker rely on some good old-fashioned suspense to spook the audience, rather than succumbing to the overwrought torture scenarios that make up the bulk of modern-day horror movies.

Nobody believes a liar - even when they're telling the truth. Five Minutes of Heaven, a film that tracks the lives of two men from the same town but different sides of the Irish political divide, is unlike any other on this subject. One man, Alistair, is a killer; the other, Joe, is the brother of the man he killed. One feels he dare not ask for forgiveness; the other feels incapable of giving it. The first part reconstructs the killing of 19-year-old Jim Griffin by 17-year-old Alistair Little in 1975, and the second part depicts a fictional meeting between Little and Jim's brother Joe 33 years later.

DESCRIPTION: Writer-Director Keith Boron certainly isn't into wasting any time. For his first feature, rather than go the "safe" route of producing a formulaic, easy-to-digest horror film that's easily classifiable and sell-able, Keith instead chose to tell a very unconventional, twisted, funny, and brutally honest story that easily ranks up there with the most unique movies I've ever seen, and definitely something that only the independent film world could produce (but seldom does, unfortunately).
MURDER IS LIKE SEX centers on Kevin Wright (Jayson Garity), a chronic masturbator (!!!) toiling away as a record store clerk, the kind of guy who never really adjusted to life after high school. He wants more out of life, but has no idea how to go about getting it, so instead he just spends his time watching movies, hanging out with his buddies, and incessantly jerking off. Not long after we meet Kevin, his sexual frustration reaches such a palpable zenith that it physically manifests itself in the form of the murderous Lisa (Robyn Griggs), who first enters his life as an innocent-enough next door neighbor, but soon becomes much, much more. It's not long before Kevin finds himself at the center of a murder investigation, trying to figure out Lisa's true nature and beat a murder rap all at once. Oh yeah, and he just might find true love. We mustn't forget about true love.
Such a wild concept and daring script can easily be lost in translation from page to screen if not executed properly, and the HTM Films crew prove themselves to be more than capable of pulling it off. MURDER IS LIKE SEX is not only an exceptionally original story, but is also outstanding from a production standpoint. Picture and sound quality are top-notch, it's well photographed and competently scored and edited. This movie could easily play cable television, joining the pantheon of movies you catch at 3am and say to yourself, "I'm only gonna watch like 5 minutes", but you end up entranced and staying awake to finish it, dragging your heels at work the next day, trying desperately to describe to your friends what you've seen. The multiple locations, production value, costumes and shot composition alone place this film high above average for a microbudget release.
And while the movie centers on a male character, it's the lead women in the picture that end up stealing the show. Robyn Griggs is extremely impressive as Lisa, the "heavy" role that could have easily been ruined by a hammy, contrived, by-the-numbers horror villain shtick. Robyn's expert, memorable delivery of dialog in the film's most intense scenes recalls Robbie Lee's legendary performance as Lace in Jack Hill's SWITCHBLADE SISTERS, wide-eyed and teeth firmly clenched. Perfect. However, the surprise hit of the movie for me was newcomer Heather Summers as Kevin's girlfriend, the kind of unremarkable 'chick' role with not a whole lot to do. Heather manages to do something you rarely ever see actors do with a secondary part, regardless of budget, making a distinct impression every time she's on screen. Her facial expressions are always interesting and deep, her choices for line delivery are refreshing, and she says more with just her eyes than some actors do in the span of a career. I walked away endlessly impressed with and happy about the female performances in this film, I knew to expect quality from Robyn, but was pleasantly surprised with Heather Summers, and hope she continues acting.
MURDER IS LIKE SEX is a risky title and an appropriately risky film, a rare find amongst the tired and seen-it-before world of direct to video thrillers, and I send my most sincere thanks to everyone involved for being brave enough to even attempt bringing such a unique tale to the screen. In my view, it's a movie about personal accountability and responsibility in the adult world, about the death of innocence and how you can never go back, but most importantly about the importance of love and healthy relationships. Throw in multiple stab wounds, out-of-body experiences and oral sex, and you got yourself one hell of a great flick.

Something has gone terribly wrong at research station 320, a secret research facility one mile beneath the earth’s surface. When a gorgeous cheerleader is possessed by a demon and starts feeding off the boys in a small Minnesota farming town, her "plain Jane" best friend must kill her, then escape from a correctional facility to go after the Satan-worshipping rock band responsible for the horrible transformation.

The movie is somewhat more successful on a comedic level, generating dark humor from its exaggeration of mean-girl tropes, and some of Cody’s trademark snarky one-liners do stick the landing. But her pop-culture references range from well-timed to seriously misplaced (particularly during Low Shoulder’s attempted ritual), her observations about teenaged society aren’t as keen here as they were in JUNO and there’s a great deal less emotional investment. The attempts to build sympathy for Jennifer, in both early moments suggesting her self-imposed emotional isolation and her subsequent possessed plight, never gel because the character remains remote throughout. One might suppose that genre newbies Cody and Kusama would bring fresh twists to the genre, but JENNIFER’S BODY is one of those unfortunate movies whose every key component has already been done better somewhere else. GINGER SNAPS nailed the bond between teenaged girls and its shattering via supernatural transformation; the satire of how the high-school community deals with grief was far sharper in HEATHERS; and for a funnier view of wannabe satanic sacrificers and the virgins they require, check out Mike Mendez’s THE CONVENT.

A man writes, lives and loves in darkness. Fourteen years before, he was in a brutal car crash on the island of Lanzarote. In the accident, he not only lost his sight, he also lost Lena, the love of his life. This man uses two names: Harry Caine, a playful pseudonym with which he signs his literary works, stories and scripts, and Mateo Blanco, his real name, with which he lives and signs the film he directs. Since he decided to live and tell stories, Harry is an active, attractive blind man who has developed all his other senses in order to enjoy life, on a basis of irony and self-induced amnesia. He has erased from his biography any trace of his first identity, Mateo Blanco. One night Diego has an accident and Harry takes care of him (his mother, Judit, is out of Madrid and they decide not to tell her anything so as not to alarm her). During the first nights of his convalescence, Diego asks him about the time when he answered to the name of Mateo Blanco, after a moment of astonishment Harry can¿t refuse and he tells Diego what happened fourteen years before with the idea of entertaining him, just as a father tells his little child a story so that he¿ll fall asleep. The story of Mateo, Lena, Judit and Ernesto Martel is a story of ¿amour fou¿, dominated by fatality, jealously, the abuse of power, treachery and a guilt complex. A moving and terrible story, the most expressive image of which is the photo of two lovers embracing, torn into a thousand pieces.

When the Museum of Natural History is closed for upgrades and renovations, the museum pieces are moved into federal storage at the famous Washington Museums. The centerpiece of the film will be bringing to life the Smithsonian Institution, which houses the world's largest museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections, ranging from the plane Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) flew on her non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic and Al Capone's (Jon Bernthal) rap sheet and mug shot to Dorothy's ruby slippers, Fonzie's jacket from Happy Days, the still from M*A*S*H and Archie Bunker's lounge chair from All in the Family. After stealing a security guard's ID badge, Larry (Ben Stiller) slips into the Archives of the Smithsonian, where Kahmunrah, an evil Pharaoh will come to life with the reestablishing of a tablet as a magical force in the museum bringing the old exhibits (Such as Theodore Roosevelt and Dexter) and new exhibits (like General Custer and Al Capone) back to life, and in conflict with each other.
